Indigowoad Introduction

Explore History
Indigo dye is an organic compound with a distinctive blue color (see indigo). Historically, indigo was a natural dye extracted from the leaves of certain plants, and this process was important economically because blue dyes were once rare. A large percentage of indigo dye produced today - several thousand tons each year - is synthetic. It is the blue often associated with blue jeans.

Characters
As with all natural dyes, the ones we utilise will develop patina and abrash as with continued wear and exposure to sunlight. Patina gives a mellowing of the colours into an eye-pleasing sheen, while abrash is the effect of uneven hues emerging as different dye dots which fade at different rates as they age. All of these factors combine in making natural dyes the ideal choice for organic fabric dyeing.

Compared to machine-dyed, whereby the indigo dye only "clings" to the surface of the cotton yarn (leaving a white core), hand-dyed cotton is deeply penetrated right down to the center of the yarn. As a result, hand-dyed denim will not only fade more slowly, but also more vividly.

We also can dye on other fabrics, but mostly on natural fiber fabrics, such as cotton, hemp, silk, linen, wool etc...
Besides the fabrics, finished clothes also can be dyed by natural vegetal dyes.
